Ribbon Cutting in Fort Bragg

There will be a ribbon-cutting on Friday, August 1st as part of the monthly "First Friday" event in Fort Bragg. THis event will take place at Pippi Longstocking's located at 123 E. Laurel St, Fort Bragg, from 5-7pm. Come see their new space and join them for appetizers and refreshments, as well as fun door prizes -- so don’t forget your business cards!

Herb Fair

Saturday, July 26 marks the 6th annual Mendocino Herb Fair in Mendocino. The small but popular fair features a variety of products from herbal purveyors and healers, including fragrant plants and medicinal herbs, natural perfumes and aromatherapy, flower essences, oils and spices, medicinal remedies and teas, fairy inspired accessories and trinkets, botanical salves and creams, and edible treats. Protect Your Back for Life

"Protect Your Back for Life" will be the subject of the Wednesday, July 23 Wellness Lecture Series at Mendocino Coast District Hospital, from 6 to 7pm in the Redwood Room. All classes are free to the public. The speaker will be Sarah C. Wagner, MPT, physical therapy clinic coordinator and certified pilates instructor. She will address common causes of back pain, exercises and how to prevent pain, safe ways to lift and when to seek related health care.

Big River Walks Begin

On Saturday, July 5, the Big River Stewards Docent program of the Mendocino Land Trust held the first Big River Interpretive Walk. The walks are free of charge and open to everyone. Participants will have the opportunity to venture down the Big River Main haul road with a docent, learning about the estuary, the cultural history of Mendocino, the birds and animals of Big River and redwood ecology. Walks will be held every other Saturday at 10am beginning July 5 through the end of September. For more info call 962-0470.

Salmon BBQ

Join everyone for the 37th Annual World's Largest Salmon BBQ in the Noyo Harbor of Fort Bragg. On Saturday, July 5th from 11am until 6pm. Besides the huge plate of salmon, salad, garlic bread, and vegan alternative, there will be tours offered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, fireworks offered by the community of Fort Bragg and information booths on rivers, the ocean and salmon for kids and adults offered by a variety of government and non-profit agencies will be on hand. The U.S. Coast Guard will conduct tours all day of its Noyo River Station, which is located adjacent to the barbecue grounds. Last year, a flyover happened, which organizers hope for this year as well. The Coast Guard will show off its renovation project and the boats it uses to perform rescues at sea.
