Bowling Ball Beach
Gaby, Beachcomber Staff
Let me tell you a little secret...Bowling Ball Beach!
You cannot miss your chance to stumble on the unique, the unusual, and the unexpected! Take a trip on the California coast, (Highway 1) located exactly three-and-a-half miles south of the town of Point Arena directly across from the intersection of Schooner Gulch Road. There are two trailheads here. Park well off the highway with your car facing south and take the trail at the north end of the parking area. It's directly across the highway from the bottom of Schooner Gulch Road. Walk north along the beach about a quarter-mile to find the unique geological formation that stretches about two-hundred feet along the shore. Each wave-rounded stone is three to four feet in diameter. There must be at least a hundred. They seem to be aligned in rows but have been scattered around a bit. The wet boulders closer to the sea are dark-gray. The dry boulders in the back row are a gray-brown color. The tops of most are covered with green seaweed. Quite AMAZING!
