Whale watch at MacKerricher
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
Wonder why whales migrate? And where are they going? Come to
MacKerricher State Park at 11a.m. any Saturday or Sunday morning in
February or March for an informative talk on whales and their seasonal
migration. Learn about the life cycle of the gray whale, its annual
migration between the Arctic and Baja California, and how it survives
the lengthy journey. Meet at MacKerricher Visitor Center for a brief
talk, followed by a short walk to watch for whales at Laguna
Point.(Binoculars will be supplied) Remember to wear comfy shoes, and
layers, in case of cold weather. Free admission, but donations very
welcome. Just about 2.5 miles north from us here at the Beachcomber!
Sounds Interesting!

At Last, Dog Day Camp!!
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
What great information I have to offer you! Bringing your
pet to our motel is fun, but it can be hard, and you are limited to do
activities...for example, whale watching. No dogs allowed on board.
Well, now, there is a place called At Last Farm Dog Day Camp. Located
in Mendocino. This place is great to take your pets to, and leave them for
the day, and not have to worry about them, because they are in great
hands. They are open weekends 10-6, and Wed.-Fri. 9-5. Reservations are
required. They even offer dinner hours, with specially made
reservations. Give them a call next time you and your pet are staying
with us, and enjoy part of the day, while your pet is in wonderful
hands! Don't forget to make reservations!(707) 937-2935

Whale washes ashore...
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
There is a 60-foot-long female fin whale carcass that has washed ashore just north of Chadbourne Gulch, also known as "blues" beach. This has made front page in the newspaper, and people are coming into Fort Bragg, just to go take pictures with the carcass. It's really amazing to see such a large animal, even thought it is no longer living, just to know that there ARE sea creatures out there that are that large or even LARGER! Defenately something to go see, even if it is from the bluffs above!

Water Towers in Mendocino
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
Have you been to Mendocino? Well, if you have, you will notice there are a lot of water towers. These towers were originally built in the 19th century, and they provided the town with water, which was pumped up the redwood tanks by windmills before electricity came to Mendocino.
When you are in the area, you should go visit the oldest water tower built in 1871, to replace a tower built in 1857 and destroyed by fire. This is located at the west end of Main St., and Heeser St. These water towers are definitely something you should go visit while you are here. They are an amazing structure, and it is amazing how these towers are now used as shops, or even living quarters. The make great photographs to keep memories of your visit to Mendocino County!

Sharon's by the Sea
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
We get asked about restaurants quite often, and the most common answer you will get is Sharon's by the Sea.They are located in the harbor, so you get a beautiful view of the Noyo River meeting th Pacific Ocean. Sharon's by the Sea has a variety of Seafood, salads, chicken, steak, pasta and chowder. This food has an Italian accent and is made to order using garden fresh ingredients. What is best about this location, is that in the summer, they're able to seat people outside on their deck. You are able to enjoy the beautiful scenery, and their beer and wine bar. Be sure to give them a visit on your next stay at The Beachcomber!

Harbor Seals
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
Did you know that Harbor Seals are the only year-round resident marine mammals on the Mendocino Coast? For your next stay, you should visit the popular laguna point at MacKerricher State Park. This park has a nice board walk, and you can see the seals from a safe distance. I do have to say, please don't get too close to these animals. If the adults see you coming, they WILL go back into the ocean, and abandon their pups on shore, and unfortunately, they most likely will not have the skills to survive on their own. Have fun observing those amazing marine mammals!
