A Change In The Weather
Kristina, Front Desk Representative
Well folks, we have had a change in the weather. Our beautiful days are done, at least I think so. I woke up this morning, and I looked out the window, and all I could see was overcast. Every year it rains on Halloween, I was thinking this year would be different, because of the weather we have been having. Then I hear on the radio, rain suspected on Halloween of course. I will not let it ruin my halloween, I haven't yet, all these years.

The Waves
Kristina, Front Desk Representative
It was a windy night lastnight, and cold. It caused the waves to be huge this morning. That is all that the guests are talking about. You see them outside taking pictures of this beautiful spectacle. The waves always reminded me of horses running in a stampede, so very gentle and elegant. It is amazing what you see if you are up early enough to see it.

Mornings at the Beachcomber
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
What beautiful mornings we've been having here in Fort Bragg. The sun comes out around 7:30 and warms up the town! A sunny morning is what I woke up to this morning, then about noon, the fog rolled in, which I think is also a beautiful thing about our weather, low fog! Im hoping that this evening, the sun will be back out to give us a beautiful sunset!

Halloween Party
Kristina, Front Desk Representative
Come one, come all!! The Wharf is having a Halloween party, of course on Halloween Night. It's a costume party, they are going to have live music, dancing and costume contest. The party starts at 8:00 and ends at 12:00. I'm not positive, but I think it's an adult party, so, don't bring the kids. It's adult time. You guys have some fun, and remember to be safe.

Hot, Hot, Hot
Mariah, Front Desk Representative
In the mornings it has been crazy hot! I can't believe it! But once you get in the shade its cold! I washed my car yesterday in pants and a long sleeve shirt and had to go in to change into shorts and a tank top! I can't believe it! So if you're on your way -- keep that in mind! But remember- it IS VERY cold at night!!!

Sunrise
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
I noticed that the sun is coming out later as we are getting into Winter time. I got to work at 7a.m. this morning, and it is still a little dark. I looked out to check out the ocean and the sky is blue turning into pink and yellow....Its like a reverse sunset on the ocean side. Which I think is quiet ackward, Beautiful, but a little strange because the sun is coming up from behind the meadows to the east...but creating a beautiful reverse sunset on the west over looking the gorgeous pacific ocean!

The Introduction of A New Bird
Kristina, Front Desk Representative
I have lived here my whole life, for 27 years, and never before have I seen pelicans. So I'm sitting here one day, and I am looking out the back door, and a whole flock of pelican come and land on the beach. Now when I think of pelicans, I think of the east coast, or Southern California, but not here, well I better get used to it, because I don't think they are leaving any time soon. A new addition to our wildlife.

Wave Show
Kristina, Front Desk Representative
Wow!! I got to work early this morning and we had an amazing show put on by the ocean! The waves were HUGE swells crashing softly back into the shore. Its almost rare to see the waves this big considering that the ocean had been so flat lately. The waves were consistent for about 20 minutes and gradually shrunk in size. I'm still seeing waves out there but they are definitely not as big as they were earlier. It was a beautiful show and I wish I had brought my camera to work....

Fire Spinning
Kristina, Front Desk Representative
Just to let everyone know, my friends are still spinning fire down at the beach on the weekends, as long as the weather is cooperating. Although the weather is getting colder, I am telling you these people are dedicated, they will be down there until they can't stand it anymore. So if you are bored on the weekends, Fri and Sat nights, they will probably be down there, if the weather permits it. Remember it is at Noyo Beach, (down North Harbor Drive, see July 26 BLOG entry.) So come and join the fun.

Experience The Beachcomber
Michelle, Front Desk Representative
We have been having great weather these past few days. It has been mostly cloudy but very warm, and the ocean looks like glass. You really never know from one day to the next what you will see. Just a few moments ago there was a flock of PELICANS out the back of the motel going over the water. This is not the normal thing you see here at The Beachcomber. It just goes to show you that you will have a great experience here in Fort Bragg, and what a better place to have it than here at The Beachcomber Motel.

Seaside
Gaby, Front Desk Representative
During this week, I thought I'd make a visit to the beach. It it very hard to believe that I'm about 2 minutes from the beach and yet its been months since I've stepped on sand...and now that I work at the Beachcomber, I still hadn't been down to the beach...Well, this weekend, I went over to Seaside(ten miles north of Fort Bragg) WOW!is one of the many words going through my head! I definitely enjoyed the warm sun, the smell of the sea, which is always the best thing for me to experience. When the waves would go back in, you had about 5-7 seconds to run in close to the big rocks that sit in the water, and you could see all kinds of creatures...from starfish, mussels, barnacles...etc. Then I would run back out because I didn't want to get wet...I felt like a child once again! What a lovely thing it is to be so close to the ocean! Since I've worked here, I look out the sliding glass door everyday and think about how lucky we are to have the ocean RIGHT THERE, and how not to ignore the beauty of nature anymore...because it truly is a BEAUTY!

Halloween
Mariah, Front Desk Representative

When you visit us here at the Beachcomber...make sure you go and take a walk throught downtown Fort Bragg. I noticed that one of many favorite shops of visitors here in F.B. is having a closing sale! Its a small local shop called For the Shell of it...the name gives it away! They sell all kinds of sea goods. From plant holders made out of shells, to just beautiful single shells, fossils...etc. They also sell jewelery made from beautiful shells...just imagine...earings made out of beautiful abalone shells...! Just might make a perfect present to take back to your boss! Be sure and give them a visit before their last day of business, which is going to be Saturday, October 14. Everything is 40% off...dont forget...!

Local Skies
Kristina, Front Desk Representative
I came to work this morning, sat down and started to do my normal everyday routine. Then I looked up to see the moon, huge and bright. The sun was coming up on the other side of the world, it was kind of a cool thing to see. I looked again, about five minutes later, and it was gone. I'm glad that I looked up when I did, and got to see that. It made my day to see something so pretty, so early in the morning.

The Weather
Kristina
Well, we just had our first "storm", I wouldn't call it that. What I consider a storm is thunder and lightning, not just some light rain. But oh well, I think we needed some. The temperature has definitely dropped. So my advice to you, if you do come our way, is to wear a jacket. And bring a camera because the ocean is still flat, and the waves are unusually long -- it would be a great shot.

Movies and Other Entertainment
Mariah
Just a reminder if you rent one of the suites. We do have VCR players and movies to borrow here in the lobby. Plus you can go down to the local movie place and rent some new releases! But, I don't know why you would with our breathtaking views and great trails/ tidepools/ events/ stores and the list goes on!! But just a friendly reminder just in case you wanted to see "that one great movie" at night.

Ever visited the North Coast Brewing Co.? Opened in 1988 and they've won over 50 national and international awards. This certified Brewery was recently included in the beverage tasting institute's "Top Ten Breweries in the World" list. The Brewery is open for tours at 2:30 M-F. Or it might not be a bad idea to go there for lunch or dinner, and taste a few types of beer they've got to offer. The Brewery is now open 7 days a week!

Evening Time at the Beachcomber
Gaby
Its sunday afternoon and its about the 3rd time that I've worked this late in the day. I just am realizing how beautiful the ocean looks during this time of day. I usually work in the morning, and its quite a difference, I've noticed that the ocean sparkles a lot more after 5 pm, than in the morning. Check-in time (3pm) here at the Beachcomber is perfect timing to check out the scenery that we have here. Perfect to check into our rooms, relax for an hour or two, right in time to step out, sit on your patio or balcony...and enjoy a beautiful california sunset...
