The Weather
Kristina
Well, well, well the winter months are here. It sure has been grey outside, and there is a chill in the air. But I will tell you one thing, the ocean is beautiful, the flattest that I have seen in a long time. I'm sitting here at the back desk in the office, looking out the sliding glass door, it may be grey but it is pretty. The ocean looks like a peice of glass, reflecting the grey skies, shiny in some spots, and dull in the others. Some people don't like to come during the winter, but I think it is just as pretty as the spring and summer months. Just a little colder. I hope you all can come and experience the beauty of winter on the coast, hope to see you soon!!!

The Serene Blue Water
Kristina
Boy, I tell you, we have been having some really nice weather. This morning I woke up and the sun was just coming up. You should have seen the color of the sky, it was beautiful orange and pink colored clouds. Then after I got to work after about an hour, the day turned out to be beautiful. I wish I could be outside having the choice to go to the beach, or just go for a nice walk along the coastal trail to check out the tidepools. The color of the ocean is this beautiful deep blue, looks very inviting, but I know from experience that it's really cold -- I know better!

Watching People Barbeque
Patricia
Nothing is more thrilling than to walk out in back of the motel on a holiday and watching people barbequing their favorite meals! Hot dogs, hamburgers, and steaks at dusk with the pounding surf in the background. Everyone is sitting under the umbrellas watching the sunset talking about the day. It truly is a beautiful sight to see everyone
enjoying the moment and making memories.

Sleeping With Your Door Open
Peppermint Patty
To everyone who ever wanted to sleep with your door or window open so you could hear the waves crashing on the beach, please know that the Beachcomber is the place to stay. Smelling the salt air and listening to the waves is so wonderful. My husband who is from the midwest and grew up with lakes, thinks the ocean sounds like a freight train. Not to me! It's beautiful music to my ears...

The Weather in Fort Bragg
Kristina, Guest Services
So for about the past week, or so the weather has been overcast and foggy. But today I woke up to the sun being out and it being a beautiful day. As the day went on, what fog layer that was there, dissapated, and all you can see is blue skys all around. The ocean is this beautiful dark blue, and as flat as can be, a perfect fishing day. I hope you all can see this at some point in your life time, because beleive me it is a sight to see. If you ever do get a chance i promise you will enjoy it.

The Beautiful California Coast
Michelle, Guest Services
Everyone always says what a beautiful coastline we have. They come here and are in awe of our beach, ocean, headlands and huge cypress trees outside our door. Tonight you could really see just how beautiful it was as I watched a guest outside of our lobby window paint a picture of "Our Backyard". You see it differently when it's on canvas. I hope everyone who visits us gets a chance to see the beauty.

Glass Beach
Gaby, Beachcomber Staff
Let me tell you a little story...
Beginning in 1949, the area of "Glass Beach" became a public dump...hard to beleive that back then, this was ok to do. They didn't realize the dangers of this, or the damage that this could do to our environment. Finally in 1967 the North Coast Quality Board realized what a mistake this was, and new plans began for a new dump away from the Ocean. Just imagine all the stuff that was dumped during those almost 20 years. Now over 30 years later, mother nature has reclaimed this beach. After so many years of pounding wave action, we are now left with tons of polished glass on the beach. Of course, as the years have gone by, the glass is decreasing. This is one of the most popular beaches in Fort Bragg, not only because of the glass, but because it also has tidepools you can walk out onto, and check the life of sea creatures that make the tidepools their home -- animals like crabs, mollusks, and many aquatic plants. Glass beach is very easy to find!
If you start at The Beachcomber, go south towards Fort Bragg, make a right at the first stop light. Go straight for a few seconds until the street makes a sharp right turn...but dont turn! Just park in the gravel parking lot. If you are facing the ocean, on the left side there will be a little path that leads you to the beach, GLASS BEACH!! ENJOY!

Local Services near The Beachcomber Motel
Gaby, Beachcomber Staff
For those of you who wonder if you will have a hard time not staying in a kitchenette, because of the food situation, we are within walking distance from the northern part of Fort Bragg. Right away you have the choice of eating at the following: Denny's, Jenny's Giant Burger, The Rendezvous, North Coast Brewery, The Restaurant...etc. If you need simple groceries, we are very close to Nello's Market, and Speedex gasoline station. In reality, being away from home isn't hard when it comes to having places you need, so close to where you are staying. We definately are in a good location, on the beach, and very close to restaurants, etc.

Sunsets in the Parting Fog
Michelle, Guest Services
Today was a very foggy day, as it has been the last few days. A couple came in and they have been traveling up the coast for the last five days and have yet to see the sunset, and this is their last night. They were desperately hoping for a sunset, and said we were their last hope. Not long after, the fog started to lift and the sun came peeking out to make way for a sunset. What a beautiful sight it was. Soon after, the fog rolled back in. I think this made their trip. We hope they will remember us as the best place and best night of their trip.

Tidepooling
Gaby, Beachcomber Staff
Want to see something very cool, and super interesting.... if you've stayed with us before, you might know what Im talking about! If you go out the back door in our lobby, look out onto the bluffs....there's an area with trees on the end of the bluff...walk out to those trees. If you look around, there is a trail that walks you along the edge...keep walking for a few minutes, and keep your eye out for a HUGE tide pool!! Its so awesome whether or not its full of water. When its full, you get to see all kinds of creatures in there.... during low tide, you can sometimes walk down there and explore it without the water... be very careful of high tides and enjoy the wonder life of sea creatures!!
